Sabotage PR: Public Relations and Marketing Solutions

Smokey the Bear is getting involved

In For the bad of mankind on August 9, 2012 at 09:33

Only you can prevent forest fires.

That is the famous line from our good old friend Smokey the Bear. It has been ages since we heard from our forest fire prevention bear and he has now resurfaced to highlight another important warning:

Only you can prevent idiots from becoming famous.

He is absolutely right! The public is in the driver seat and we ultimately determine the fate of the celebrity obsession, the market. You might be sick of celebrities sharing the headlines in our newspapers or television programs, but you ask for it, well not directly but it still works.

Here is an example of how it works: The other day our intern said, ” That dog has more talent than Kim Kardashian”. She was referring to a dog on Youtube. But positive or negative, mentioning names like Kim is a huge mistake because the air catches it. And when the air catches it, the wind carries it to other ears. And when other ears hear it, they start to say it, think about it, and Google it. And finally the markets hear it; except they hear cha-ching$! No matter what the situation, she ends up richer and more famous and so do plastic surgeons.

So be careful what you say. If you don’t like all this gossipy crap, it’s unfortunately not going to go away anytime soon. It’s only going to get worse. But you do have the power to prevent some of this. Don’t say ‘those’ names aloud. Don’t allow your friends, your colleague, daughter , sister, bank teller, to utter those names. Give them a dirty look of disappointment. Remember what Smokey says, ” Only you can prevent idiots from becoming famous.”

Sadly, for us here at Sabotage it only benefits us to shout names like Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, Paris Hilton, as loud as we can because our ratings go up. We rely on those gossip-glory weaklings to bring in the traffic. Beside, these people can’t really be idiots if they make so much money. That’s what our gossip obsessing friends would say and come to the defense of their beloved celebrity idols. Don’t let Smokey hear that!
